Want to move to Vietnam to experience travel, and to work. Any guidance on proceedings? :-)

Get a job offer, then the company can apply for a work permit.

Either you learn the language before going to Vietnam, or hire a walking dictionary.

Job offer,I agree. But where do I start\go still being in S.Africa.

Gravitas

First you need a profession that is transferable to Vietnam - not all are needed or would require specialist local skills or language to be carried out.

Check out major international recruiting firms present in Vietnam e.g. Michael Page, Robert Walters (I actually havnt checked if they operate there - but there will be some chain recruitment consultancies I expect).

I guess speaking French will be quite useful as well.

Some Googling should help you in the right direction.

Coach Athan

Or starting your own business in Vietnam. Which might be a little time consuming on the documentation. I can assist if you want.

There is "Job" Section in this place and that may get you started hunting for job offers. However, be prepared for low salary.

Depending on the vocation, most jobs are not offered very high salary. Vietnam is suffering out-flux of talents mainly due to this reason. Room for development is also limited.

MNCs are the only companies that I know of that offer Expat packages. You might want to note that.

Another good way to start on a job offer is probably you might want to post here a little of your history so fellow mates here can help on a look-out.

Having said, the workforce in Vietnam as I see,  there are more job seekers than job creators. Be mentally prepared.

Thank u for the replays, I really want to make this happen:-)  . I'm going check out the MNCs now .

What do you do? Skills need here are in Construction, engineering, Architecture, PM, QS, Interior design etc. Im not sure of he Financial Industry. Also Teachers at International Schools. Some wealthy people want English speaking Tutors and child minders I hear. There are any number of SAFERS here - chances you know somebody who knows somebody here..

michaelavwyk

At the moment I'm I'm busy completing the 150hr masters TEFL course. I'm hoping to find a job as a teacher or Evan better a English tutor as you mentioned.

GaryJM

Well I'd start by researching the International schools and ascertain what their criteria are and what their needs are then gear your application accordingly. Why VN? Why not Japan or Korea or Thailand?

My dad wants to go see Vietnam for a month.the ideal plan would then be that I go with, find a job and he helps me settle in before leaving. If never traveled in my life so I'm somewhat clueless. I'd love to see the world though, my choice would be to go to Thailand more than Vietnam.

Gravitas

You could search on jobs in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Its a University City in the mountains. I think you will find some interesting opportunities and a good starting place to try out living overseas.

Thats great life experience and all that. Good luck let me know when you and your Dad arrive and I'll intro you to some of the expat community I've come to know.
