Resident Permit Registration Appointment

When commune gives an appointment to come and register (to get the Resident Permit) on a particular date and time, is it possible to go before that appointment date to register? I understand we won't be having specific time slot but if we go there early morning, stand in line, will they entertain us or they simply tell us to come on appointment date?

They will ask you to come on the appointment date.
