Initial Accomodation

I'm considering a move to Bahrain and the company has said it will pay for initial serviced apartment accommodation for 1 week until I find my own villa.  Is this normal?  One week doesn't feel like enough time but I'm told the majority of people move into longer term accommodation within 1 week?

Depends on the company really.  Most good companies (and multinationals definitely) offer at least one month accommodation when you arrive.   That is offset against your housing allowance.   The one that is being offered to you is probably not being deducted from your housing allowance.

With the market the way it is nowadays, it is relatively easy to find accommodation.  But by the time you are able to move in i.e. sign contract, take possession etc, it could take up to 2 weeks minimum.   So the best option is to do a deal with the place you are staying and try to get preferential rates for extra weeks there or somewhere else till you get settled in.
