Investing in Ireland

Hello everyone,

During your expatriation in Ireland, you might have been made aware of interesting investment schemes (local or international). Whether one wants to make money grow, protect oneself or prepare for retirement, investment is always an attractive option. It is, however, never free of risk. Would you, therefore, like to share some practical information for other expats and expats to be?

Is the Irish economy open to foreign investment? Do local authorities encourage investment (through formalities, tax etc.)?

What are the promising sectors to invest and do business in Ireland?

Who do you turn to for information before investing your money? (organisation, professional, lawyer, consultant)

According to the sectors of activity and the projects, what budget should be foreseen for an investment in Ireland?

What do you think are the pitfalls to avoid and what advice would you give someone who wants to invest?

Thanks in advance for your feedback,
Diksha

Is the Irish economy open to foreign investment? Do local authorities encourage investment (through formalities, tax etc.)?

Yes, Ireland is one of the most open economies in Europe and welcomes Foreign investment.  A large number of global tech & medial devises companies have their European head office in Ireland

What are the promising sectors to invest and do business in Ireland?
FinTech; IT; medical devises & R&D

Who do you turn to for information before investing your money? (organisation, professional, lawyer, consultant)

In the first instance there is a Government dept who deal with Foreign Investment: https://www.idaireland.com/ after that you should have your own solicitors/business advisors

According to the sectors of activity and the projects, what budget should be foreseen for an investment in Ireland?

That is too difficult to quantify, you would need professional advise on this topic

What do you think are the pitfalls to avoid and what advice would you give someone who wants to invest?

research, research, research.  Depending n your level of investment, employ a business consultancy to advise.  Do your budget and then add 50%

Hi Diksha,

I hope you are well, Yes Investment is an exciting prospect for many and there are many options to consider. I am an ex-expat who has just moved Back to the UK from Dubai and I have worked in the investment industry as a broker for many years now. I can not offer info on investing in Ireland but have you thought about Investing In the UK? The UK offers some very stable markets including Property and is also just a stones throw away from Ireland, I would suggest looking into it.

Thanks,
James
