Hi,

I am supposed to travel Brussels from India for long term opportunity with work permit in 2weeks.
The only legalized document I have with me right now is Police Clearance. I received a mail from my employer yesterday saying that I will need legalized Birth Certificate once I reach....I know 1 of my colleagues moved recently and he was not asked for it.
Is this required, I fear I don't have that much of time , my dob is in 88 if that helps?

Depends on the Commune where you are registering. For example, the Brussels commune generally isn't so strict on paperworks. However, for me, when I tried to register in Saint-Gilles commune (which is in Brussels), the paperworks had to be spot on, and hence my registration got delayed and took 7 months to get all documents even translated in French and have legalization in Belgium.

So, it would be advisable to start the legalization process before you leave, if that's possible, so that you can have the documents handy at some time later, if need be.

Do all the legalization before coming in Europe (add sworn translation if possible), it will avoid 10.000 problems... and everything will be easier if you've the legalization from the Belgian embassy!

Btw I think that your visa will never be issued if you don't provided legalized papers anyway...
