EP Application - Employment History Questions

Hi all,

I have been a silent reader of this forum for awhile and I couldn't find answers related to my story.

To give you a little bit of background, I will explain what I am experiencing in a chronological order as follow:

1. In Aug 2019 until end of Jan 2020 I was assigned to a foreign law firm based in Singapore as a secondee associate. But during the EP application, my occupation declared as a Trainee Solicitor instead of Associate. The reason was, if the firm declared my occupation as an Associate during EP application, they would need to simultaneously register me as a foreign lawyer to the SG Ministry of Law, which what I understood, this registration would take quite some time and at that time the firm needed me to come to SG as soon as possible and they said they could do the registration at Ministry of Law later on. At that time, I wasn't sure if the SG firm has updated my title (from Trainee Solicitor to Associate) to the MoM or not.

2. After my secondment ended (in Jan 2020), I went back to my home country (Indonesia) to continue my original employment until Sept 2020. Subsequently, I moved to another employer (which is my current employer) until now.

3. Recently, I received an offer from MNC Bank based in SG ("Prospective Employer") and after they fulfilled the FCF requirement, they recently applied for my EP.

4. On the application, the Prospective Employer put my employment history with the following order:

a. Current employment.

b. My secondment experience. Their rationale was, since I have FIN No. they said they have to put my secondment experience instead of the whole latest work experience which ended in Sept 2020 (see point 2). And they will explain this to MOM in case MOM get back with queries. But this create employment gap in my opinion.

c. Related to point (1) above, the Prospective Employer put my occupation status as Associate as I initially told them that I was a secondee associate in SG. They put the last working date at the SG firm being Jan 2020. But then I checked online, the SG firm cancelled my previous EP in March 2020.

My questions:

(i) Would the 'employment gap' on point (b) above trigger complication to my current EP application?
(ii) Would my previous Occupation title on point (1) above trigger issue to my current EP application?
(iii) Would the last date of my actual secondment date (Jan 2020) trigger issue to my current EP application? Considering the SG firm cancelled my EP in March 2020?

Thank you so much!

(i) I do not understand where an "employment gap" should come from, as long as you declare your CV correctly (which is an absolute must!):
    Aug.'19 - Jan.'20 employer A Singapore
    Feb.'20 - Sep.'20 employer A Indonesia
    Oct.'20 - now employer B Indonesia
(ii) MoM will certainly check the application against their records. Thus, to avoid complications, it is better to use your actual job title (not one you wish you had).
(iii) It is not your mistake that the employer failed to cancel your EP right after your engagement ended. But again, to avoid complications it is better to add a remark explaining this in the application.

Thank you for your time answering my questions Beppi. It seems you slightly misunderstood my story.

on your answers:

(i) My CV is correct. But on the application to the MOM, the Prospective Employer only put my current employment, and my SG secondment employment. Thus there is a few months gap between my current employment (started in Sept 20), and the SG previous employment (ended in Jan 20).

(ii). Again I think you misunderstood my explanation. the actual title I had was an Associate during my SG secondment program. But the SG firm declared as Trainee to avoid complication in the application (as I explained on point (1) in the original post). I do not understand why would you assumed that I wished I was an associate. Quite a repugnant of you to say ..

(i) The employer must, as part of the EP application, supply information about your past employment. Submitting only part of your employment history (a.k.a. CV) will create problems and may decrease your approval chances. The employer should correct that immediately.
(ii) From MoM's current viewpoint you were a trainee. Falsely declaring your job description was not a good idea! Declaring it correctly now will probably lead to questions and, even if you can convince them that it was the old employer's mistake, at least cause a delay.

Singapore and most other developed countries have zero tolerance towards misleading/ inappropriate information. The submitter actually ''ticks'' a declaration that they are submitting accurate information while applying for a pass.

My 25 cents, submit accurate information, you can request the submitter (employer/ agency) to do so by withdrawing your application. Why take unwanted tensions and ruin your chances to shape up your career in a country like SG? If there is a justification, use the cover letter to explain the same.
