STVP Extension

Hi all,

Are the rules governing the extension of stvp tightening? I have read lot of posts on the forum for the past fews months and the extension of stvp can be done relatively easier and attitude of MOM is more lenient.

I was given a stvp expiring on 30 Sep 2021 after cancellation of EP and my new employer can only apply my EP on 24 Sep 2021 due the 28 days job ads rule. In this case, I am still short of 1 week, in best case that my EP application being approved in 2 weeks time, in getting my IPA to legally stay in Singapore.

I had called the ICA and MOM to check on the extension of STVP and from the feedback, I could only extend my STVP with valid reasons such as not fit to travel or waiting for embassy-facilitated flights. However, I was advised that I can still visit the MOM center at The Riverwalk to ask for assistance and whether or not I am given the extension, it is the sole discretion of the officer.

My question is does anyone here has a successful extension of stvp and what is the reasoning used to support the extension. TIA!

Chief Bean

My pass was canceled since Aug and my last day is end of Aug.
I asked my ex-employer to submit extension only reason is Waiting for Embassy Flight and got 7 days.
Last week I asked my ex- employer to appeal again because of the same reason.
But until today haven't got the result.
I called MOM and they said only employer can check the result.
I am waiting from my employer.

It used to be that a 30-days-post-EP-STVP could not the extended or renewed at all - under any circumstances (except medical reasons, see below).
Then came COVID, with travel restrictions and flight cancellations - to which MoM reacted by loosening this restriction and giving extensions relatively easily in cases where the STVP-holder could not travel.
These times are over, so it is again getting more difficult to extend an STVP.
Currently, they will give an extension (once only!) until the travel date if you book a flight within two weeks after expiry of your STVP. Also, if you visit MoM in person shortly before your STVP expires, they will usually (once!) give you a few days extension - just enough to book a flight and leave.
Please note that waiting for a new EP is NOT reason for an extension - because this can take an uncertain time (sometimes many weeks) and could be rejected. Those people waiting for a new EP must leave Singapore before STVP expiry and wait elsewhere!

Edited to add: An STVP can also be extended for medical reasons - if you are too sick to travel. This rule has not changed throughout the COVID time.

Hi,

Glad to read your sharing! So do you need to provide any supporting documents from the Embassy when applying for the extension?

Hi,

So does it mean that in my case, I have a STVP expiring on 30th SEP and if I were to book a flight on the 14th of OCT and apply for an extension until the flight date, they will approve it by high chance? Should I apply individually or through my former employer? TIA!

What about post-STP-STVP?  Fresh graduate of local university and have been waiting for EP for 3 weeks, but STVP will expire at the end of September. Is my extension application hopeful if the EP result doesnt come out then?

Mandy: We had no holder of such an STVP (issued by ICA?) on the forum yet, so cannot advice. If you find out the answer, please report it here, so future readers can find it!

EP pending: 3 weeks
STVP valid time left: 2 weeks

Yeah, it was automatically issued after the cancellation of STP. Yeah, my case is quite special.
I called ICA, the officer just said 'try to extend'. I am so worried that whether my STVP extension will be approved while waiting for EP. If not, it is so time-wasting and money-consuming that EP is approved but I am already back to home country and need to wait for entry approval again.

And can my next empolyer (job at a university) help me appeal the extension of STVP? Any such case? Cuz in other threads all is ex-employer who help the extension...

beppi

As I said, this forum only had former work pass holders so far, no ex-students.
Therefore, you better ask ICA, not us.

MandyStudy

I will try to ask ICA then. Thank you for your patient reply!
