Hi Mistermoby,

Contacting the embassy is a waste of time unfortunately. Always contact an immigration  Lawyer because it is a legal matter.
We are satisfied with ours for the moment who is a French immigration Lawyer (he does NOT speak English).
We are French/American.
and you are British so the case is different.
Here is his contact info:

Tell me if you had a great success to contact him, you will have to book a consultation.

Good luck! :)

Hiring a lawyer to establish French citizenship of your children is a waste of money. My eldest daughter was born in California and inherited French citizenship from her mom. All we had to do was reach out to the French embassy in San Francisco and present our respective birth certificates as well as our daughter's. It was very straightforward.

I have two other children from a second marriage, both born in the SF Bay Area and they have dual citizenship as well, Italian through me (I applied for Italian citizenship several years ago, gathered the necessary documents, translated the ones that were not already in Italian and submitted the whole shooting match to the Italian consulate in San Francisco; also very easy and straightforward. Just by including their birth certificates got them citizenship as well).

Hi Robert,
We are from the Bay area too, from San Jose, CA :)
Yes, in your case I see, it was easy but I heard that the children must apply for French citizenship before 21 years old if not they will have to choose one citizenship only. Is it true?
So you have an Italian citizenship so you can travel all over Europe therefore you can stay in France but do you have to register for residence?

Definitely not! My ex-wife recalls, when she had turned 18, being contacted by the US government and being told that she had to choose. But her mother hired a lawyer to check this out (the French government never has had a problem with dual nationals) and learned that it was all BS. She told the government so and they dropped the pressure tactic. This was 55 years ago and the US no longer tries to pull such shenanigans.

Sure, same as for French citizens. Gotta let the government know where you are so they can allocate funds for social services.

I see...Why did you want to live in France?

I was invited by my French girlfriend to move in with her. Also, I'm a francophile from way back.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

The procedure is you register the childbirth in the country where they were born; after which you can register with the Brits; this link will take you to the UK Gov website where they describe the process.

My daughter did it from the Netherlands when her son was born there, it worked very well and you do not need a lawyer to do this.

Hope this helps.
