Mariage Procedures for a Muslim

Post new topic

Bubu

Heya...

I'm a Muslim lady from Malaysia engaged to a French man. We plan to settle down soon and live in Paris. The initial wedding ceremony would be held in my country (Malaysia) but we would also like our marriage to be acknowledged by the French goverment. We've already been informed of the marriage procedures in Malaysia but are still clueless of the French procedures and documentations. Could someone please help us on this matter?

Hi!
The best of lucks with your mariage! :)
In France,a religious mariage is never valid alone-be it muslim or any other-you have to have a civil ceremony as well. You can do tha in an embassy or at the townhall in the city your husband is from. There is quite a lot of paperwork: your birth certificat and an official paper from your country stating you're not already married!:D  These papers must be translated into French. You need all the paperwork ready well before the date you'vve picked to get married,as there is a delay between the publication of the mariage (publication des bans) and the ceremony.I'm myself a foreigner married to a French, and don't worry-they like papers, but you'll manage!
But to be harsh, there is an other problem you might encounter:the French authority's fear of "white mariages" (fake ones).Even though this has calmed down now that we have a socialiste gouvernement. It might be good having some "proof" of the reality of your relationship.
