Can someone please recommend an English speaking tax accountant or attorney.  We are retired and would like to know what taxes and how much we would have to pay.  We live in the US and are planning a move to Portugal.  Thanks for any consideration and assistance.  Ken Bowers

Hi Ken,

In 2024, these are the income tax bands:

The NHR status that gave tax benefits has been suspended. The government may reactivate this status, but it's not certain yet.

The taxes also depend on the nature of your income - refer back to the double tax treaty.

eg government pensions (includes state, municipal, federal, police, some teaching and universities) only US may tax. Some annuities, depending on provenance, maybe taxed at a reduced rate.
