Newborn question

Post new topic

Hello,

I am living right now with my Peruvian husband in Peru and I have my carnet de extranjera. We are thinking about starting a family and thinking we would have the baby in Canada (where I am from) and then returning after the baby is a few months old. Does anyone know the process in acquiring a carnet de extranjera for a newborn?

thank you!

You don't.  You get a peruvian birthcertificate  for the baby at the consulate by bringing her complete birth certificate, and all your marriage and birth info. (check to make sure you have what they want)  Then you baby will be a citizen rather then extranjera. I did this for all of my children and now in the process for grandchildren as their moms are all citizens of Peru.  Do not wait until the children are 18 because at that point they have to go through that process.  (wish I got a dual citizenship that easy!)
