expatlibya

We are planning a 4-5 day family holiday in Djerba / Malta & would welcome any information on the following-

Djerba-
1. Procedure to take our car into Tunisia (we have a blue/foreign number plate).
2. Visas - do we have to get them in Tripoli or at the border.
3. Hotels - any suggestions?? ... not too expensive...

Malta -
1. Air Tickets - Libyan Airlines is – LYD 278 and Air Malta - 342LYD .... is this info. correct?
2. Visas - how long does it take to get a visa from the embassy.
3. Hotels - any suggestions?? I have looked up a few in Sliema & they range from 200 to 400 Euros for 4 nights.

Any other suggestions & advice??? Thanks ....

Hi
i think  it is good for you to go to dejrpa
if the car for the company and  you have blue/foreign number plate you have to go to libyan international clop cars ..you will but 2000 lyd  deposit for the car ..and when you come back from Tunisia you will get your money ..(like Advance)..and if the car for you and you have blue and whit plate i think you will but 500 LYD  as deposit in the Libyan police  ..between Libyan and Tunisian ..
and when you  come back from there will get your money from police.......

i hope you  understand from me .. my Writing English not very  will  ... thanks

To Djerba is as haitem said. You have to pay a 500 LD deposit for private car ant more than 2000 for company's car. The best way is to find what is called The Automobile and Touring Club of Libya (I'm not sure if this is the right institution). You pay exactly 530 LYD deposit. They give you special booklet and it's valid for a whole year. Afterwards you take 500 back and they take 30 as their costs. If you want I can ask where this Automobile Club is exactly. Somewhere in center of Tripoli for sure.

Thanks a lot for the info.... the hotels in Djerba are offering excellent all-inclusive packages ... any idea how many kms it is from Tripoli? Approximately how many hours will it take for us to reach Djerba from Tripoli ... that is while driving at a 'safe' speed ... thanks :)

Thanks a lot Haitem ... we plan to go on the first day of Eid ... does that mean more or less traffic at the border??

It's around 160km from Tripoli to the Tunisian border, and then around 130km to Djerba, around 300km in total.

Hi there

What nationality are you?  This will determine whether you need a visa for Malta or not?

I have not been to Tunisia so cannot help there.

My husband works in Tripoli and he comes to visit us in Malta every second weekend.  He flies Air Malta and says they are great!  I live in Malta and will try and help wherever I can.

We stayed in a very nice hotel which was 80 euro per night in Sliema.

Let me know what dates you are thinking of visiting and i will check hotel prices here in Malta for you.
