Hello All
I am planning to come to the Cebu area later this year for first visit to Phils. I have been a regular visitor to Thailand (North) but am becoming a little disenchanted with all the rules, red tape and bias.
I would like to look for somewhere to retire to in a couple of years and have heard some favourable reports about Phils.

I am a 62 year old Scot living near London at the moment.

Any tips or advice from you people in the know please :)

Welcome Haggis. The Philippines has a lot to offer. I live in Cebu and it is a large, crowded city with a bad traffic congestion that makes it time consuming to get around. Worse than what I've experienced in Chiang Mai for comparison. I only live here because we have kids in private schools. But that being said, the people are friendly and it is a gateway to many other islands that are awesome to explore. Just come, visit, look around and make your own impressions.

I agree with pwncyclist and would add that you should not expect anything different here as far as the rules, red tape and bias go. That stuff is alive, well and thriving here.

I would highly recommend reading this as well as other forums so that you know what to expect when coming here. This is a whole different ballgame then the western world that I am used to.
