price of cars

Post new topic

Is the price of cars shown in Numbeo correct ? It shows a Toyota Corolla Sedan or Volkswagen Golf around USD 30,000

Any suggestions where to buy new/used cars that are reputable dealers with good deals ?

Thank you

N.maria

You should download the sahibinden app so you can check current car prices in Turkey. The app has and English option.

karmsun

Thank you but can not find English version ?

N.maria

I think when you sign up the app is Turkish. But you can change the settings to English. I have mine changed to English. Not everything will be in English but once you change the language settings it will be easier for you to browse for cars.

Cars are expensive in Turkey  because of taxes. For a 2019 Volkswagen Golf, depending on the specs and condition you're looking at 200,00 TL to 380,000 TL. Which is approx $23,000 to $44,000 USD.

karmsun

Wow, that is expensive. What do people do ? Are there good reliable used car dealers that one can trust for good deals or difficult to come by ?

Vehicle transportation is considered a luxury here in Turkey because most people use public transportation. The taxes are so high because owning a car is not considered essential. I recently just purchased a van because I have a large family and don't live near any public transportation. I have a Turkish friend that helped me through the entire processes. I highly recommend finding a Turkish friend that is willing to help you and even negotiate a lower price. Be careful buying a brand that is not common in Turkey because imported vehicle parts will be very costly. I used the Sahibinden App to compare prices and make the best choice of what vehicle to buy. I was told to always get the car professionally inspected before purchasing. I did this, and it was worth the extra expense.

When you download the Sahibinden App, you will see on the top right a silhouette icon of a person which is the button for your profile and account settings. Once you click that icon, scroll all the way to the bottom and the last option will say "Dil Tercihi." Select this to change the language preference. Hope this helps... Good Luck!

Good evening,

Got a quick question on this subject. I heard that buying an used car is more expensive for a non-Turkish national than a Turkish national (reason being extra taxes). Is this correct? I found it hard to believe that this would apply to a used car.

Pariste

Interesting question. 🤔
I am not surprised by anything in this world !!!😂😂😂

marleysa

anything is quite possible here in Turkey... and yes foreigners need special plates and therefore pay more taxes new or used.

moesab

Is there a way to check the amount that you need to pay (e.g. a website where you select car/model/year and it gives you the tax you need to pay)?

Thanks for the replies; it helps a lot!

Pariste

Good question.

marleysa

you can google it and see if there is?

There are many websites for purchasing new vehicles by the manufacturer.  Here are a few websites of the most popular makes of cars:

https://www.renault.com.trhttps://www.skoda.com.trhttps://otomobil.fiat.com.trhttps://www.opel.com.trhttps://www.seat.com.trhttps://binekarac.vw.com.tr/tr.htmlhttps://www.peugeot.com.trhttps://www.citroen.com.trhttps://www.dacia.com.tr

I'm not sure if you know turkish but if not, you can view model details by selecting "modeller" and view pricing by selecting "fiyat listesi" (fiyat means price).  The listed prices already includes taxes.  I'm sure there is room for negotiation but not sure of the extent of it.

To provide a bit of context, I live in the US and hope to move to Turkey once my son, who is a freshman in college,  gives us confidence he can go it alone.  My heritage is Turkish but I was born in the US and know conversational turkish with limited vocabulary.

moesab

Thanks for the info! Hope you succeed (and your son)!

I don't know Turkish, but google translate helps a lot.

Thanks again.

Glad to be of help; I hope it helps.  I don't know that much but from what I gathered from the web, it looks like purchasing a vehicle may be the best option.  Here are some sites I bookmarked on buying a car in Turkey:
https://move2turkey.com/buying-a-car-in … d-to-know/https://ikamet.com/blog/how-to-buy-a-ca … -foreignerhttps://www.quora.com/Why-are-cars-so-e … ey?share=1https://expatguideturkey.com/can-foreig … in-turkey/https://www.angloinfo.com/how-to/turkey … -a-new-carhttps://www.captivatingcappadocia.com/b … in-turkey/https://www.propertyturkey.com/buyer-gu … nto-turkeyhttps://www.9ekim.com/en/services/tax-free-cars/https://www.luxurypropertyturkey.com/bu … in-turkey/

BTW, I also use Google translate religiously as I am lost with most write ups in Turkish.

And thanks, likewise best of luck in your endeavors

Best Regards,

you can bring your own car or buy a car from a nearer european country. Almost 1/4 price. But when you bring a car from foreign country you have to leave Turkey every 6 month with your vehicle

cheers

... "you have to leave Turkey every 6 monthS FOR 6 MONTHS, YOU with your vehicle."...

Is the reason you have to take your car out of the country due to the car and its origin country, or dependant on if you have residency?

Or are the two things not linked?

Also if cars are not seen as a necessity then how does this apply to disabled people, where, by my way of thinking at least, it IS a necessity as they can't use public transport as no wheelchair access.
