Thank you for thé news. What about R visa?

JoeKhmer

R (retired) is not a visa but an Extension of Stay (EOS).

The E visa (not the electronic tourist visa) can be extended to an ER EOS once in the country, within 30 days of arrival.

Hope this clarifies things

Cheers.

Joe, your updates get better and better, counting down to the day I arrive at the Phnom Penh airport. Thanks.

JoeKhmer

You're welcome Willyboy.

The fastest way you could get in is to travel to Sihanoukville from Dec 1, stay there 5 days and you're free to go any place in Cambodia.

Maybe Christmas with the family?

Cheers mate.

Hi
What is the covid situation in Cambodia at the moment. Do you know if we have been double vaccinated if there is still isolation in place?
Can anyone give me the full run down please.
Work situation?
I would be looking more at the coast. Sihanoukville area. Otres etc. Accommodation prices and is it easy to retire there?
Thanks
Marji

Hi
The covid situation is one of the best in the world with 87% fully vaccinated and many with booster shots also children from age 6 by year end Cambodia should be fully vaccinated, our infection rates are 3 in 100000 people still ware masks wash hands and distance also you must show your vaccination card QR on your phone temperature checks in all government buildings banks malls shops so it's pretty good, you can now comes to Cambodia fully vaccinated with no qurantine, Cambodia is now fully open, if you are staying longer then 30 days and are over 55 get a E visa which you can extend when inside Cambodia to an ER visa 3-6-9-12 months but 6-9-12 months allows multiple visits, a tourist visa we $30 a E visa $35 at the airport, a look on the internet will clarify all the above as things do change in line with covid situation,

As retirement it is very easy to retire in Cambodia an ER visa can be renewed yearly at travel agents, but you will need an address or hotel were you are staying and register in the QR code and a person staying in Cambodia your travel agent will assist you in this, it is wise to study tax and that you may pay in Cambodia, and any pension you may transfer,

As for renting it is flexible and widespread
From $150 to $1500 so it's how much comfort you want, things to think about,
were you stay my choice is daun penh district it has malls good shops tuktuk transport system streetlights and all the facilities you would need, choose a flat which has access close to the road, see it at night as stairwells may not be lit, first floor is noisy and masses of wires in front of the flat, 2nd floor has street lights, 3 Rd is best as this is above all, and only 3 floors to climb old style chop house many don't have lifts, pay utilises yourself it's cheaper, air-conditioning is expensive to run fans much cheaper, get a proper agreement to renting a flat, in English & Khmer,

In general I have been here 7 years I do travel back to the UK for the sailing season, in that time I have never felt unsafe in daun penh, the people are very polite but loud argument they do not like, agree a tuk tuk before you set of and have your journey on your phone, most drivers do the same, the postal service is limited and you have to pick it up from the central post office, or DHL deliver, ATMs will provide cash in $100 dollie bills and it pays to change $100 into reil,

Good luck in Cambodia the kingdom of wonder.

I retired in Siem Reap last year, and much prefer it to Phnom Penh. Traffic is light every day, when not on my motorbike I use Passap (ride-hailing app) and never pay more than $1 to go anywhere around town. Nice modern Western style apartments , one bedroom, here are around $200 to $250. Up to $350 if you want a pool. I have just renewed my retirement extension, a local travel agent does it for $295 for 12 months. Entry to Cambodia is easy now if you are vaccinated, dont even need pre-flight PCR test. Lots of small bars and restaurants are open, and the live music scene is starting up again. Yes the roads are still a mess, (they decided to renovate the entire road, drainage and underground power line system) but hopefully will all be fixed up in a couple of months, its been going on for nearly a year. For safety, cost, ease of getting around, entertainment, expat community and relaxed lifestyle I would definitely recommend checking out Siem Reap before making a decision on where to live.
