fumigation

Post new topic

Good Morning group,

I couldn't find this topic, therefore, i created it out of necessity.  If already posted, please accept my apology.

I need to fumigate our apt in Las Terrenas. before moving in- the apt does not have mosquitos but one closet has what we think is  carcoma, the previous owner had furniture which was infested with this.

Any recommendation is appreciated.

Could be carpenter ants too. Tell tale sign gor them is the sawdust because they dont eat the wood.

You can buy treatment for woodworm - carcoma - at any builders merchant or at a farm products shop.

It could be.  There is a lot of sawdust-  people in DR either tell me is either carcoma or comejen— lots of sawdust. My realtor called it banana worm.  So you don’t think I need to hire a fumigator?

I am not sure if fumigation alone will work if you have woodworm well established deep in furniture. You have to nip infestation in the bud before they burrow into the wood and thereafter you may have to drill and inject chemicals.

The damage may have progessed too far too and you need to replace the wood or furniture.

It is probably best you seek advice from a pest control company to evaluate the pest and state of damage but be careful they just dont fob you off. Grill them as to how any spray will kill any bugs deep inside the wood if that appears to be the case.

The chemical I was advocating was to prevent wood infestation when the initial signs appear. Our caoba doors are new and we noticed signs of possible attack and my wife bought and applied a chemical. We lost all the kitchen cabinets in an apartment we rented in Santo Domingo due to carpenter ants. Woodworm and termites destroy wood inside and outside the home if not treated.

We also spray termites with a producy we buy from the local agro store when they attact trees on the property.

It is rarely done here but foundations and ground slabs and building perimeters should be termite treated. I guess so little wood is used in typical construction here so it is ignored.

Thank you Lennoxnev.  Yes I believe is deep already and May not be worth saving the closet.

I will need to find a pest control in Terrenas-  ANYONE know of any that they recommend

You mention that you are in Las Terrenas and I see there is a outlet of a Dominican house pest treatment company based there:

Kholy Chemicals

I do not see anything specific for woodworm when downloading their catalog but is does include products for termites so it might be a good idea to go to their shop:

Kholy Chemicals Samaná, Oficina Las Terrenas. Plaza Nuevo Mundo, Avenida Juan Pablo Duarte, casi frente a Banco Popular, Las Terrenas, Samaná, República Dominicana.
